I started Cycling Systems when I found that training without a goal rarely motivates most individuals. To assist you in becoming a better athlete, I work with you to assess your abilities, set attainable goals and to keep those goals in focus. Part science and part art, I help you put the pieces of the training puzzle together to enhance your performance potential and reach your goals. I have over eighteen years of racing experience and eleven years in the area of personal fitness. I am an American Council on Fitness Professional Trainer (ACE), USA Cycling Level I Coach (Elite), and a former Category 2 road racer. I own/run my business, fundamental: the training center, in Marin Co., CA.

I am the NCNCA Men's Category 5 Mentor Coordinator for the past two racing seasons and into 2010.  I am part of a mentoring group with the sole purpose of helping beginning racers achieve a level of skill to progress them upward in the ranks.

Like any committed athlete, I set racing goals for myself each year. But I also help others to achieve their cycling goals, whether short—or long—term. I take my work as a teacher, mentor and coach seriously—I can help you realize your potential based on your own talents and abilities.

I train all types of athletes, ranging from the person wishing to finish their first century to serious athletes wanting the education, motivation and scientific approach to reach a new performance potential. What I try to instill in my clients is the belief that they can improve—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. They get great personal satisfaction from their improved performance and results. I also encourage my clients when they struggle with self-doubt about their accomplishments. Each new goal or challenge comes with its own frustrations. I help my clients understand that this is normal and is an important part of the growth process.

My personal training at fundamental: the training center is functional and to the point.  I use minimal equipment with maximal gain, utilizing the TRX Suspension System, Kettlebells, Jump Rope and other tools to help you win an edge over the competition.

Experience
Competitive cycling for eighteen years, starting in the early 1980's. I achieved category 2 status in my third year of racing after a lot of hard work, wins and placings. I have been on various regional racing teams including Vespa/Bianchi, Raleigh USA, Colombian Gold Bier, Twin Peaks Cycling Team and am the coach/founder of Cycling Systems.

I am an indoor group cycling instructor. Indoor training goes hand-in-hand with the gym work I've incorporated into my athletes program. Either one-on-one or in a group situation, the athlete gets an effective workout to meet their particular goals during inclement weather or when time is limited.

I have owned my personal fitness training business for eleven years. I love being in the fitness industry, helping people to get healthy and stay that way. Assisting others has also helped me to stay in shape. I find it exciting to help other cyclists and athletes with my knowledge and motivation!

I work with many types of athletes with varied goals and abilities, including enhanced performance, weight loss, rehabilitation, injury prevention and flexibility.

USA Cycling Level I Coach (Elite)
I have been active in the racing/fitness scene for many years with people often asking me to help them reach their performance goals. Coaching others allows me to combine my passion and my business. Certification as a USA Cycling Coach in 2001 has helped me make one of my dreams a reality.

ACE certified Personal Fitness Trainer
Seeking certification as a personal fitness trainer was another critical goal for me. This certification demonstrates that I am willing to actively lead the coaching process. It was not easy—I had to study hard and apply myself. I take coaching seriously. I utilize a semi-periodized approach to help each athlete constantly improve, depending on their own personal stresses to the applications of training. This step-by-step approach helps each athlete build their fitness level, minimize burnout and prevent injuries.
